Tom competed in the 16-17 -76kg category on the 22nd of April. Tom beat all of his opponents fairly comfortable with three out of four fights stopping early due to leads of 8-0, 9-0, 8-0. The final was more closely contested, but tom saw off opponent Jerome Brown, a previous European silver medalist, with a 4-0 victory.This is the fifth time tom has won he English championships, and the second time he has done so without being hit with a scoring point.

And Hickman has now been immortalised in a book about karate published by nine-time world champion and OBE for the sport, Wayne Otto.
Otto has put together the words while Hickman demonstrates the techniques, which the two spent most of the festive period working on.
They were holed up at the Inspire Gym in Brierley Hill with Otto visiting from America and Hickman learned on the job, trainer Paul Campbell explains.
